The GEOMAGIA50 database project was initiated at the 5th Nordic Paleomagnetic Workshop, held in Siuntio, Finland, 25 to 30 September 2004. The workshop was organized by Satu Mertanen and Lauri J. Pesonen, and was funded by the Academy of Finland.
